Mrs. Julia Ferraz Events Manager, Communications, Asia-Pacific Habitat for Humanity International As the Events Manager for Asia-Pacific at Habitat for Humanity International, Julia manages the delivery of the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum, one of the region’s largest platforms for solutions to poverty housing issues and the promotion of affordable housing as a driver of growth. Working at the largest global housing non-profit organization, she also leads communications strategies and campaigns by creating content and disseminating impact stories that can engage hearts and pockets. Prior to advancing her career in international development, Julia worked in business and cross-cultural consultancy, advising companies from Latin America and Europe in finding business opportunities in the Hong Kong and China markets. Previously, she worked in Colombia supporting government humanitarian assistance programs to internally displaced populations, and also worked in the financial communications sector in Brazil. Born and raised in Brazil, Julia graduated from CUHK’s Master of Global Political Economy in 2014 and also has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Sao Paulo. With over 10 years of professional experience in business and development sectors, she is determined to use her skills and expertise to make the world a better place. Doing good in an uncertain world: politics, economy and international development In a world where foreign policy and economic decisions become more disruptive and unpredictable, what role does the public, private, and civil society sectors play in aiding impoverished countries and populations? For this seminar, Mrs. Julia Ferraz will talk about international development from a global perspective, including the role of the United Nations and other multilateral organizations in face of rising nationalist sentiments, and what are the current motivators for countries to give and receive aid. The presentation will also touch upon local development topics, including the China’s Foreign NGO law and the work NGOs in Hong Kong. She will also provide a first-hand testimonial about working in a non-profit organization and provide tips for students interested in pursuing a career in international development.
